Dignified disposal of unserviceable flags
We have placed a flag drop-off box on the North side of the Queen Creek Chamber of Commerce building along Aldecoa Dr.
Once we receive the flags, we store them until we can hold a Retirement Ceremony. This process involves a respectful, solemn ceremony, with burning being the traditional method.
Key Terms and Methods:
- Retiring the Flag: The standard term for disposing of a flag that is no longer fit for display.
- Flag Retirement Ceremony: A formal event, often conducted by organizations like the American Legion and Scouts.
- Ceremonial Burning/Incineration: The preferred method for disposing of a cloth flag.
- Decommissioning: A term used for the respectful destruction of the flag.
- Flag Burial: An alternative, respectful method for disposing of a flag.
According to the U.S. Flag Code, when a flag is worn beyond repair, it should be destroyed in a dignified manner, most commonly through a ceremony.
***If the box is full, please bring it inside and let someone know that the box is full***
